It’s Sugar Cookie Time!

The holiday season has finally arrived! The weather is cooling down, the decorations are no longer in boxes in the garage, Mariah Carey and Michael Buble are ready to go!

There are so many traditions that my family does this time of year including decorating the tree, doing an advent calendar but I think my favorite holiday traditions is baking and decorating sugar cookies! We get all of our cookie cutters out, make several different color frostings, grab all the sprinkles and go to town! This is an experience that I get to do with my mom every single year and when I say we don’t mess around when it comes to cookies, I mean WE DON’T MESS AROUND WHEN IT COMES TO COOKIES!

I remember when I was in high school, we would throw these cookie parties for me and my friends. We would come home from school before Christmas break and my mom would have dozens of sugar cookies ready for us to decorate! We would blast Jingle Bells and have the best time! To this day, whenever my high school friends and I get together, the cookie parties are always a topic of conversation.

I am all for the buttery, soft, delicious classic sugar cookies don’t get me wrong and there is NOTHING wrong with enjoying them but they limit those with certain dietary restrictions or those who just want something a little healthier! But no need to worry, I have a super yummy sugar cookie that is PALEO and GLUTEN FREE and are perfect for those decorating traditions! The best part is that you only need 5 ingredients! I know, it sounds too good to be true but just trust me!

This recipe makes about 8 cookies but can easily be doubled to make more! When it comes to the frosting, I used whipped cream and added some food coloring to get that orange and green! My favorite part about sugar cookies is you can make them however you want, the limit does not exist with all the possiblities!

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil, softened
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  3. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients together until it makes a dough
  4. Wrap dough in saran wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle coconut flour on a clean, flat surface as well as a rolling pin to prevent sticking
  6. Roll dough out so it is about 1/2 inch thick
  7. Pick out your FAV cookie cutter and cut the dough into shapes
  8. Transfer dough onto baking sheet using a spatula so they don’t break
  9. Take remaining dough and repeat this process until all the dough is used.
  10. Once all the shapes are cut out and on the baking sheet, pop back into the fridge for 15-20 minutes
  11. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until edges become slightly golden brown
  12. Let cool completely then decorate with sprinkles and whatever your heart desires!

If you make them, as always, tag me! I can’t wait to see all the fun cookies!
