MUG (cake) Life

To me, mugs are one of the most versatile kitchen appliances I own. You can go from having your cup of coffee, to a cup of tea, to making food in it. My most favorite way to use my mug is to make MUG CAKES because why not have cake for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert? I am an adult and with adulthood comes eating cake for breakfast.

I am all for making things from scratch but sometimes I get hangry and don’t have the time or patience to do that so when it comes to mug cakes you best believe I take the easy way. Instead of having to measure out flour, baking soda, and all that jazz, I opt to use PANCAKE MIX (genius, I know right). I also use the MICROWAVE to cook it as well. Hacks on hacks coming at you. Here is how I make my mug cakes.


  • 1/2 cup of pancake mix (my go-to’s are Birch Benders and Kodiak Cakes)
  • 1 scoop of protein powder (optional)
  • Dash of cinnamon or any spices you desire
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • Any add-ins or toppings


  1. Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl until no lumps and all combined
  2. Spray a mug with cooking spray and add batter
  3. Pop in the microwave for 1 minute, if not cooked, place back in for 20 second intervals until nice and fluffy
  4. Top with all the goods (chocolate, nut butter, fruit) and ENJOY
